Popups
People are always asking me how to get rid of popups and advertisements on their computers. Well, I figured this would be a good place to give some pointers and direct to some free programs that can help.

Ad Aware - This is a great program that can scan your computer for various items that will cause ads to pop up.

Google Toolbar 2 - Google has made this great little program that not only is a search bar for the best search engine on the web but also blocks popups while you're surfing.

If you are hearing random audio advertizements being played on your computer, such as movie trailers, these are probably coming from Aol Instant Messenger. The easiest way I have found to get rid of these programs is to simply uninstall viewpoint media player. This has worked so far for me.

It is also a good idea to review the programs installed on your computer and remove those that could be causing problems. This can be done in the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
